Terror in the Theater: Fifties Fears

Written by on December 1, 2017

Press Release – The Campbell County Rockpile Museum is pleased to announce the December 1st opening of a traveling exhibit from the University of Wyoming’s American Heritage Center. Terror in the Theater: Fifties Fears showcases full-color prints of posters from the classic 1950s’ science-fiction cinema. The fantasy and adventure embodied in the science fiction movies of the time often masked real fears and anxieties of the Cold War era.

The social and political fears of the time were reflected in movie themes which included alien invasions, atomic mutations, and an uncontrolled rise of technology leading to terrifying consequences.  These films often included monsters ranging from aliens from outer space to prehistoric monsters from the depths of the ocean. Terror in the Theater showcases the fears faced by the world in the 1950’s.

To celebrate this amazing exhibit, the Rockpile Museum is hosting a special movie showing at the Gillette Foothills Theatres on January 20, 2018 at 10 AM. Guests that visit the museum and view the exhibit will have the opportunity to pick up FREE tickets for the movie of their choice which includes: Earth Versus the Flying Saucers or The Incredible Shrinking Man. Tickets are required to attend this exciting movie event and seating is limited.

Stop by the Rockpile Museum to see this fascinating collection which will only be on exhibit through January. For more information, please call CCRM at (307) 682-5723 or visit www.rockpilemuseum.com.
