This morning Gillette Police Lieutenant Brent Wasson released some additional information on yesterday's fatal construction site accident. Wasson said the driver of a dump truck that backed over and killed a 38-year-old, out of state man, is a 31-year-old Yankton, SD man.
Wasson said the investigation revealed the 31-year-old was operating the machinery while under the influence. Wasson said the 31-year-old was arrested for DWUI. Wasson said decisions on additional charges are still being discussed.
On August 5th, 2013, at 6:16 am, emergency responders in Gillette were dispatched to the old recreation center property, after it was reported a serious accident had occurred.
Gillette Police Lieutenant Bret Wasson said the initial call reported that a man was struck by a piece of machinery in the area of Frontage Road and Veterans Drive. Wasson was not able to elaborate what the machinery was and was not able to comment on whether the man had been run over, or hit by the machinery. He said the incident remains under investigation.
Campbell County Coroner Tom Eekof confirmed a 38-year-old man died in that incident
