If you are traveling between Newcastle and Gillette today, keep an eye out for four cyclists who are riding for wounded Marines and other veterans. The four men, ages 16 to 57, are traveling from Sea to Shining Sea to raise funds for our country's wounded heroes.
“We are riding in support of the Semper Phi Fund. It’s a non-profit organization to raise funds and awareness for wounded Marines, and other service members who are wounded while serving with Marine Units. That fund has expanded itself to cover, I think, all veterans now.”--- Team Leader, John Folberg
The group hopes to raise $20,000.00 by mid-October, when they reach York Town, Virginia. The group has traveled through a lot of US communities. Folberg said Gillette stood out as a generous community from first contact. The retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel said the first individual to ask what cause they were riding for was pleased to donate right there.
“She wrote a hundred dollar check, so Gillette is an incredibly friendly town, and we just really appreciate the support that we have gotten here.”---Folberg
Folberg said that support and generosity extended all the way through town, when they stopped for lodging at the Arbuckle Lodge.
“What is absolutely so neat is that they have given each one of us our own room. We’ve never encountered that. Usually, its four of us in one room. It is just amazing the generosity, encouragement, support, the hugs. I got a big hug from I think the general manager here.”---Folberg
The cyclists riding to benefit wounded Marines and other veterans head out to Newcastle this morning; but there is still time to show your support in Campbell County.
“Our gateway website is http://ccc4vets.com/. Through that website, people can link to our Facebook page, they can link to a donate page.”---Folberg
