Jan Miller, Chaplin for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, is welcoming the public to POW/MIA day on September 20th . Miller says things will get going at 8 a.m. at the VA Clinic.
“There will be a ceremony there at the flag; and then in at the VA clinic there is going to be a missing man table ceremony; and afterwards, there will be refreshments. Then at - I want to say 11:45 - there will be a similar missing man ceremony posting of the colors, including the POW/MIA flag at the Senior Center, along with the missing man ceremony. “---Miller
Miller says the history of POW/MIA day will be included in the presentation. Miller said the stories of POW/MIA advocats such as Maureen Dunn will be told as well as others.
“The flag was designed by a Newt Heisley. In the flag, you’ll notice there’s a bust of a man with his head bowed - that is Jeffery Heisley. That was his son. And his son was an MIA - never been found.”---Miller
The day before the POW /MIA day, a separate event will also take place at the VA Clinic
“September 19th, 1:00 to 3:00p.m., (is) Dr. Margaret McCreery retirement party at the VA Clinic. She is the VA Doctor there; she has been there for about ten years.”---Miller
