Earlier this week, representatives from the Summer of Hope adoption program stopped by News Talk 1270 KIML. Geri Gibson spoke with host Don Carpenter about the program.
“Summer of Hope is a program that brings children from different countries. This year, we did the Philippines and the Congo to the United States. They come for a month, and they have a kind of a dream American vacation. They come and spend a month with a family here. The American families get to spend time with these children, and a lot of them are adoption minded, and they want to adopt a child; so, they get to know the children through that month period. It kind of helps them decide whether or not they want to adopt and bring these children into their homes.”---Gibson
A fundraiser to support the program will occur on January 30th at Camplex Energy Hall. One of the event’s organizers, Candice VonEye, says there is a lot planned for the evening.
“Doors open at 5:00. We have a prime rib dinner with all the sides starting at 6:30, and a live auction starting at 7:30."---VonEye
VonEye said they have been really busy collecting donations and table sponsorships and selling raffle tickets.
"The first prize for that is a week vacation at a vacation home in Cape Coral, Florida, with two thousand dollars' air fare.”---VonEye
