The police standoff that resulted in a precautionary lockdown of Twin Spruce Junior High late Monday afternoon was resolved about 5:50 pm. Gillette Police Lt. Brent Wasson said a 34-year- old male was taken into custody. Police converged on a residence in the 700 block of South Kendrick. Wasson said the man was sought earlier in the day by law enforcement in an attempt to serve a warrant for felony stalking. Wasson said they had information the suspect was armed with a rifle and the school was locked down as a precautionary measure because of its proximity to the residence.
The man surrendered after hours of talking with police. Nobody was hurt during the arrest. More information will be provided late tomorrow morning.
School had been dismissed for the day by the time police blocked off several blocks of Seventh Street, but since extra-curricular activities were still occurring, the precautionary lockdown and evacuation were ordered by authorities.
