Chase, Crash, Ambulance Ride, and Arrest

ccso2At about 1:06 PM on October 16th the Campbell County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a reckless driver.  It was reported that a green Ford truck nearly rolled at a speed of about 90mph at the intersection of HWY 50 and Southern Drive.  Under-sheriff Scott Matheny said that a deputy located the vehicle near Cam-plex and attempted to make a traffic stop. The vehicle did not strop and allegedly went through the intersection of HWY 51 and Garner Lake Road while dodging cars before accelerating from the deputy.

Back up units where called for and the suspect vehicle went westbound on I-90. Matheny said speeds reached about 85 mph as deputies tried from the front and side to end the chase.  At one point the suspect, a 42 year old Gillete man, is accused of forcing a deputy's car of the roadway.  At about mile marker 114 spikes strips were deployed but despite the tires on the suspect vehicle going low it was accelerated to about 95 mph.

The chase ended about mile marker 113 when the suspect crashed.  Matheny said no significant injuries to the suspect, the public, or officers were reported.  After a trip to the hospital, the suspect was arrested on four misdemeanor charges, including DWUI. Matheny said his office is looking into pursueing a felony charge against the suspect for forcing the deputy into the ditch.
