School Trustees Get Stocktrail School Demo Update

ccsdAt last night's Campbell County School District meeting, trustees received a Facilities update from Associate Superintendent For Instructional Support Dr. Alex Ayers.  During Ayer's update on several facility projects that the school district has going, trustee chairperson Linda Jennings requested information on the old Stocktrail Elementary School site.  Ayers asked Tim Volk to provide that additional information. Volk who has been the Supervisor Buildings and Grounds for the Campbell County School District for three years told trustees that the demolition project has gotten going again recently.

"We updated the board that we have a dozen or so contractors that are interested in the demolition and abatement of that building, with bid openings set for the December 19th."---Volk

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Richard Strahorn was interested in receiving more information on how the grounds would be handled and what was planned for removal from the site. Volk said they intend to have all sidewalks and any other potential hazards removed. He added they intend to regrade the site so that it can be easily maintained.

"We also intend to leave all trees and shrubbery intact as much as possible so its a nice green space when we are done."---Volk

Volk added the process of what to do with the old site have been a long a drawn out effort.  Prairie Wind Elementary was opened in August 2010 to replace the Stocktrail site because of the condition od Stocktrail at that time.
