Gillette Police Investigating Shooting

At about 10:50 pm on February 26th, the Gillette Police Department responded to the 900 block of East 7th Street.  It was reported that an adult male had suffered a gunshot wound from a .22 caliber handgun. Police Lieutenant Brent Wasson said that when officers arrived, they found a 40-year-old man with a gunshot wound to one of his legs.  Wasson said a 46-year-old woman was also contacted at the scene.

 Wasson said the preliminary investigation indicates that the man received the gunshot wound during the course of a domestic dispute.  Wasson added that the investigation is continuing and he was not yet able to confirm who had possession of the gun when it discharged.  He did confirm the 46-year-old woman was taken into custody, but said a release of formal charges to the media may not be ready before Thursday.  Wasson said the man was still recoving in the hospital after surgery.
