On March 14, 2013 at about 0815 hours Deputies responded to northern Campbell County near the Montana line, following a call from a rancher about a suspicious vehicle pulling a trailer loaded with oilfield wire. Upon arriving, deputies found the trailer broken down and hidden near Hwy 59 and Olmstead Road. Approximately 4000 feet of shielded submersible pump wire was recovered, valued at $12,000.00.
The suspect vehicle was located by a Sheriff's Dept Sgt in a trailer court in north Gillette. Two men from Colorado were identified as being involved and one arrested on unrelated charges. At about 1700 hours, the owner of the wire, which was stolen from Biddle, Montana, was identified. Robert Todd Simmons (40) has been charged with Concealing Stolen Property. A warrant has been issued for his associate. The investigation is ongoing and also involves the Powder River County, MT Sheriff's Department.
