The Razor City Renegades Soccer Club held their 2nd annual Royal Rumble Indoor Tournament last Saturday and Sunday at the CCPRD Field House. Teams from Wyoming and South Dakota participated in eight divisions. Awards were issued to the top two teams in each division. The tournament provided some great entertainment and action that saw both local clubs have a strong showing. Some of the best action came Sunday afternoon during the finals when four matches went into overtime.
Tournament Director and Club Vice-President Toby Westbrook was pleased with the results.
“We went from 18 teams last year to 38 teams this year; so around 120% growth. We also grew from two fields to three. We were excited to see so many local teams, and we really appreciate the teams that traveled to get here. We are going to try even harder to get more teams from out of town next year, and we are looking forward to continuing to grow this event.”
The Renegades are already planning for next year’s event and are working with the Rec Center to secure a date. They hope to hold the event around the third or fourth weekend of January. Club President Brent Knottenrus talked about it.
“The Rec Center and their staff were awesome and so helpful. This facility is perfect for hosting this tournament and we cannot wait to be here again. We are already looking at ways to improve every aspect of the tournament; from the vendors, to field size, to improving viewing. It’s just great to see an event like this growing in Gillette. We are already excited for next year’s tournament.”
