The Gillette Girls’ Cross Country team placed first, as a team, Friday, at the Class 4A Conference meet, Friday in Gillette.
The Camels’ Tabitha Simmons was the top finisher, individually, with a time of 19:48.88. Four other Gillette runners placed in the top ten, in fact, two more were in the top three: Quinn DeStefano took second; Jessi Jeffries finished third; Sidney Wendt placed fifth, and Abby Phillips took seventh.
Ron Kline was named Coach of the Year. His boys’ team placed second, overall, behind Laramie.
Gillette’s Derek Myers, Harrison Simmons, and Justin Mehrer placed seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively.
The Powder River Class 2A Conference Meet was Saturday in Hulett., featuring teams from Wright, Moorcroft and Hulett-Sundance.
The overall team winners were the Moorcroft Boys and the Wright Girls.
Hulett-Sundance had the top individual finishers. Jace Walker won the boys’ 5000 meter race, while Cayla Adams was the top finisher among the girls.
Moorcroft’s Tyler Jones and Jared Matthews placed second and third, respectively, in the boys’ race, and Jonas Pridgeon, of Hulett-Sundance, placed fourth.
Wright’s Kylie Murphy and Abby Sessions placed second and fourth, respectively, in the girls’ race, while Moorcroft’s Skylar Taylor and Hannah Rathburn took third and fifth.
The state meet is this Saturday in Sheridan.
