The Campbell County High School girls’ basketball team placed second, and the Camel Boys took third, Saturday, in the final round of the 2014 Energy Classic.
The Lady Camels were beaten, in the girls’ title game, 84-63 by Miramonte High School, out of Orinda, CA.
The Lady Matadors’ Sabrina Ionescu scored 39 points to lead Miramonte to the championship. Shelby Johnson led Gillette with 20.
The Lady Camels are now 7-3, and will be on the road, Friday, against Natrona County. You can hear the game on 97.3 Camel FM and basinsradio.com, with coverage starting at 7:15.
The Gillette boys’ team beat Wilson High School, out of Portland, OR, 67-53, in the third place game.
Cody Kelley led the Camels with 31 points, as they improved to 8-2.
Gillette trailed by as many as eight, in the first half, but then went on a 16-0 run to take a ten point lead into the halftime break. Kelley scored 16 in the first half, and 15 in the second half. He was 11-of-11 from the foul line.
