At the 2013 Wyoming High School State Indoor track and field meet at the Rec Center this weekend the Lady Camels improved on last season’s runner up finish as they brought home the State Title with 129 team points, 62 more than 2nd place Kelly Walsh. For the Camels they ended up in 2nd place with 72 points, 27 behind team Champion Kelly Walsh.
The Lady Camels earned points in all, but 1 event and the team of Randee Erb, Demi Fischer, Michelle McGeary and Makayla Pzinski set a new indoor state record in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:46.64, which was more than 3 seconds faster than the 2nd place team from Cody High School. In the 4x400 relay Fischer and McGeary joined up with Maddy Sather and Olivia McCann to cross the finish line in 2nd place. Then in the 4x800 relay Abby Phillips, Sarah Sharp, Quinn Destefano and Tabitha Simmons ended up in 2nd place as well.
Individually for Simmons she outdistanced Star Valley’s Hailey Ricks by just over a second to win the 1600 with Destefano coming in 3rd. Then in the 3200 Ricks was able to defeat Simmons for the title with Abby Phillips in 4th and Destefano in 5th.
The only other girl’s winner was Amy Merchan in the pole vault with a personal best jump of 10’6” with Stefanie Wagner coming in 5th. In the other field events McKenna Massman had the best finish for Gillette in the high jump as she was 5th with Jessie Geer finishing in a tie for 6th and Olivia McCann tying for 7th. Ashton Peterson came in 6th in the long jump and Elizabeth Maller was 3rd in the shot put.
The top finishers for Gillette in the 55 meter dash were Pzinski in 2nd and Erb in 4th. Pzinski also came in 2nd in the 200 with McGeary in 6th. McGeary was also the top Lady Camel in the 400 as Demi Fischer was right behind her in 6th. In the 800 Jacey Lamanna had the best finish for the Lady Camels as she crossed the finish line in 7th and then in the 55 meter hurdles Katie Howard was 4th and Ashton Peterson 8th.
For the runner up Camels their best finish was in the 4x400 relay as the team of Ethan Strand, Tichun Aipperspach, and Dustin and Dallas Erisman won with a time of 3:29.39. In the 4x800 relay Justin Mehrer, Harrison Simmons, Rodrigues and Zach Power came in 6th place.
Rodrigues also scored points for the Camels in the 1600 with a 6th place finish and in the 3200 as he crossed the finish line in 5th. In the sprints Aipperspach and Dallas Erisman came in 2nd and 4th respectively in the 200 and in the 400 Dallas Erisman was 2nd with Aipperspach 4th and Dustin Erisman 5th.
In the field events for the Camels Will Eichenberger, Dallas Erisman, Brad Eliason and Kris Adams came in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 8th respectively. Finally in the triple jump Beau Nutting ended up in 6th place.

It's the last weekend of the season, which means it's time to crown state champions.
Highlights of the Sunday, May 12th, legion baseball game between the Laramie Rangers vs. the Jackson Giants, in Casper.
The State Track and Field Championships are Thursday through Saturday at Casper's Kelly Walsh High School.
Because of a shortened season, this weekend's event in Casper is the next to last rodeo before the state finals.
