GILLETTE, Wyo.--The Gillette College Pronghorn women (2-0) were victorious in one of the most nail biting games in Gillette College history. It all came down to a last second foul and three free throw opportunities against Colorado Northwestern Community College. The final was 69-68 on Saturday night.
The Pronghorns were led by Kallee Wilson in the first half, as she had 10 points in the half. Alicia Carline and Chelsie Pitt were right behind Wilson with seven points each.
Gillette College had a 40-29 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Colorado Northwestern came back to take the lead a couple of times, but Gillette College eventually took it back for a final time at 51-49. McCorra Ford scored nine of her 13 points in the second half to anchor the Pronghorns. However, the Spartans kept it close down to the end.
With four seconds left and Gillette College on top with a 69-67 lead, Nyahok Bile of Colorado Northwestern was fouled by Pitt a few feet in the front court while attempting a desperation three-pointer as time expired. That sent Bile to the charity stripe with three free throw attempts. Bile missed the first free throw, but made the second to make it a one-point lead for Gillette College.
Head Coach Will Rider of the Pronghorns called a timeout to ice Bile. It worked. Bile's final free throw hit the rim and ricocheted off to the left and on the floor.
Colorado Northwestern and Gillette College will have a rematch at the South Campus on Thursday, Nov. 14th. Game time is set for 5:30pm.
The Pronghorns go on the road first to Casper for two games, playing Sheridan College at 5:30pm on Friday and Otero College at 1pm on Saturday.
