GILLETTE, Wyo.--The Pronghorns had a healthy lead in Saturday night's game against the Williston State. However Gillette College's (6-1) big cushion disappeared, as it held on to get a 81-74 victory over the Tetons.
Gillette College took an early lead as Alicia Carline and Bridget Cargal led the way. Carline was strong from the line and Cargal beyond the arc for a second game in a row. The Tetons came back to take a 23-22 lead halfway through the first half. Gillette College didn't panic. And took it back at 32-31. It was 44-33 in favor of Gillette at halftime.
In the second half, with Gillette College up by as many as 20 points, Williston State was successful in stealing the ball a few times with a full court press. The turnovers turned into points and cut it down to as little as an eight-point lead for Gillette College at 78-70.
However, like the night before, a couple late free throws by Chelsea Ullery kept it out of reach for Williston State.
Five players finished with double digits and Carline had a double-double with 11 rebounds and 19 points. That was the game-high for Gillette College
Head Coach Will Rider left his back ups in as long as he could before bringing in a starter here and there to give his team some experience in tight situations for Region IX play later in the season.
Gillette College goes on the road next Friday and Saturday to play in a tournament at Northwest College. The Pronghorns will play Colorado Northwestern for a third time this month on Friday and the College of Great Falls JV team on Saturday. Gillette College won't be home until Dec. 7th when it plays rival Sheridan College, a team they lost to at 70-69 in Casper earlier in the month.
