Pronghorn teams take care of CO NW squads

The Gillette College Pronghorns men's and women's teams took down  the Colorado Northwestern Community College squads Thursday night at the South Campus. The (11) Pronghorn women (6-0) defeated the Spartans 68-43 and the men (3-2) handed Colorado Northwestern their fifth loss of the season, 78-66.

The ladies led throughout the game against the Spartans, however Head Coach Will Rider of the Pronghorns said that Gillette College “played flat” during the middle of the game. Yet, the contest was never in jeopardy for the Pronghorns, as they led 31-19 at halftime.

The trey was the difference maker for the Pronghorns, as Gillette College sank seven of them in the game, compared to the Spartans' three. Three Pronghorns finished in double figures with the Keke Wright, who came into the game ranked third in the National Junior College Athletic Association for points-per-game with 24, leading the way as she put 18 on the scoreboard. Chelsie Pitt finished with 13, making two of her five three-pointers. Kiela Garner was 50% for threes, making two of four and finished with 12 points.

Michelle Blanton was the high scorer for the Spartans, finishing with ten points.

The men's game was a different story. Other than a 2-2 tie early in the game, the Spartans had control of the first half. Thomas Powers of Colorado Northwestern scored ten points in the first half to lead the Spartans into the locker room with a 33-28 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Dwight Anderson of the Pronghorns came out firing on all cylinders. Anderson didn't score any points in the first half, but started the rally early for Gillette College in the second stanza. Anderson and company tied the Spartans three times, before making the final lead change at 52-50 midway through the half. A couple of turnovers in the Spartans' front court that transitioned into points for the Pronghorns on fast breaks, are what helped changed the momentum for Gillette College.

Anderson finished the game as the high scorer with 20, followed by Mitch Clarke at 17 points on the night. Jayden Walsh had 12 points and Myles Henry and Andre Marquez each had 11 points.

Brent Aga led the Spartans with 18 points.

The Pronghorn women take on Air Force Academy Prep at 5:30pm  and the men take on Colorado Christian's JV team at 7:30pm on Friday night at the South Campus. You can hear both games on 93.3 The Legend and online at https://www.network1sports.com/station/kled.
