Both Pronghorn basketball teams took care of their opponents Friday night at the South Campus. The (11) Pronghorn women (7-0) defeated the Air Force Academy Prep Huskies, 55-48 and the Pronghorn men (4-2) easily dispatched the Colorado Christian JV Cougars, 101-45.
The Huskies came into Friday night’s game with a record of 1-6, but gave the Pronghorns a fierce competition throughout the game. The Huskies were in double digits before Gillette College could get on the scoreboard at the 15:35 mark of the first half. The Pronghorns were able to tie the game at 14 with four lead changes and one more tie at 17, before going into the locker room at halftime, knotted up at 22 apiece.
In the second half, the Huskies wasted no time to get back on the board, as they started out with a 5-0 run. The Pronghorns tied with the Huskies two more times before making the final lead change at 40-38. Free throws were the difference maker. The Pronghorns went 12-20 from the line, compared to 6-18 for Air Force Prep.
Keke Wright led the Pronghorns with 19 points and had her fifth double-double of the season, pulling down 11 rebounds. Kiela Garner also finished in double digits, as she put up ten points.
Monique Hall led the Huskies with 17 points.
In the men’s game, the Pronghorns led the entire game, minus the 2-0 lead the Cougars had at the beginning of the game. Gillette College nearly doubled up Colorado Christian in the first half with field goals, making 47.9 % of their two and three pointers combined. The Cougars went 24.3 % in the same stat. The Pronghorns also went 12-17 from the charity stripe, as the Cougars went 1-3 the first half. The Pronghorns had a 53-19 lead at halftime.
Gillette College continued to coast in the second half, as they were 20-33 for deuces, where as the Cougars were 9-32.
Five Pronghorns finished in double digits, with Myles Henry having the team-high of 18 points.
Josiah Christian of the Cougars had the game-high of 22 points.
The Pronghorn men and women will face Little Big Horn College Saturday night at the South Campus, with the women tipping off at 5:30pm and the men at 7:30pm.
