With three players in double digits and a great effort from two players off the bench that averaged less than a point a game, the #14 Gillette College Pronghorn women (13-1) got by Dawson Community College (7-5), 71-62, Saturday night at the South Campus.
It was a lot of see-saw action in the first half between the Pronghorns and Buccaneers, with nine lead changes and six ties. Keke Wright sank eight, two-pointers and went into the locker room with 18 points at halftime. However, it was a tie ballgame after the first half, with 39-39 on the scoreboard.
Every game this year, someone different steps up for the Pronghorns off the bench. Saturday night was no exception. Danielle Santos and Breanna Thomas, who averaged .7 and .4 points a game respectively, had major contributions on the scoreboard. Santos, who finished with eight points, and Thomas, who finished with five points, helped push the Pronghorns over Dawson, despite a nine-point deficit midway through the second half.
The other difference maker in the second half, was Gillette College's ability to make the two-pointer. The Pronghorns were 13 of 30, compared to eight of 28 from the Bucs on deuces.
Wright had the game-high of 22 points. Bryce Mitchell and Keely Swander both had the Buc high of 13 points.
The Pronghorns were still without Matty Jolovich, Alicia Carline and Chelsey Mudgett. In the post game interview with Head Coach Will Rider, Jolovich should be back by the Sheridan game next Friday. Carline will not be back until the next semester and the team is waiting on a second opinion on Mudgett's knee.
The Pronghorns play their rival Sheridan College Generals next Friday at the Golden Dome in Sheridan. You can hear that game on 93.3 The Legend and online at https://www.network1sports.com/station/kled with the pregame show starting at 5:15pm.
