Pronghorn women get huge Region IX win against Casper College

Gillette, Wyo.--For the first time in Gillette College Pronghorn women's basketball history, Casper College (21-7, 10-5) has fallen to the Pronghorns (24-5, 11-4) both times in the regular season. Gillette College held on to defeat the Lady T-Birds, 63-59, from the South Campus.

The win locks in a #3 seeding in the North Sub region bracket for the Pronghorns of the Region IX tournament coming up in early March.

Keke Wright led the Pronghorns with a double-double, as she finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Christina Davis, who averages 8.9 points-per-game, had a nice night as well; she finished with 15 points.

In the first half of action, Gillette led 14-7 early. However, Casper College went on an 8-0 run to take a 15-14 lead. With less than a minute to go in the half and after a couple more lead changes, the Pronghorns were able   to tie it up at 23 going into the locker room.

Gillette College came out running in the second half with its own 8-0 run. Casper College came back again, as the T-Birds tied it up at 37-37. The Pronghorns broke the tie and led for the rest of the game. However, the T-Birds kept it close. Free throws made down the stretch by the Pronghorns kept it out of reach for Casper College.

The Pronghorns were out rebounded in the game, more than twice as many times offensively, but 17 free throws in the second half out of 25 attempts helped even that stat out. The Pronghorns also doubled up Casper with steals. Freya Newton had 4 herself in the contest.

Shelby Stewart led Casper College with 18 points.

The Pronghorns play their last regular season game of the season at the South Campus on Saturday against Northwest College. Game time is set for 3pm. You can hear the game on 93.3 The Legend and online at https://www.network1sports.com/station/kled.
