Pronghorn men's season comes to an end

Casper, Wyo.--For the first time in team history, the Gillette College Pronghorns men's team played in a second round game of the Region IX tournament on Monday afternoon. It was also the first time they played North Platte Community College out of North Platte, Neb. The Knights were able to play keep away with the lead, as the  Pronghorns season came to an end in the 81-67 loss.

North Platte Community College started out on a 6-2 run. That didn't keep the Pronghorns down, as they rattled off nine points to give Gillette College an 11-6 lead with 14:35 to go in the first half. North Platte responded, as they took the lead back at 12-11 and held onto it for the rest of the game.

Gillette College was able to keep it under 10 points in the first half. The Pronghorns were perfect from the free throw line, as they went 8-8 and out-rebounded North Platte, 18-16. However, it was 37-30 in favor of the Knights at the half.

The Knights were able to keep the lead out of the Pronghorns reach as they kept it a high single digit to low double digit game for most of the second half. The Pronghorns started to fade away with minutes to go in the game, as North Platte advanced to the third round of the tournament to take on Northeastern Junior College on Tuesday.

Reath Jiech of North Platte led all players with 25 points; Andre Marquez led the Pronghorns with 22 points.

The Pronghorns still had many bright spots in the season. They made it to the second round of the tournament and also finished 7-1 on the road against North Subregion opponents of Region IX games in the regular season. No other team has ever done that in the conference.
