Gillette, Wyo.--The Gillette College Pronghorns mens basketball team will have their first Canadian on the squad this upcoming season. Head Coach Shawn Neary has added 6'8, 235 lb. forward Steven Clark of the Alma Academy. The Alma Academy is located in Alma, Quebec.
Clark is one of the top forwards to come out of Canada this year. With an average of 12 points and 8 rebounds a game. His team was crowned Champions of the NPSAA, with only two losses to Canadian competition this past season. Clark was also a nominee for the 2013 All Canada Classic edition held in Toronto.
Neary stated, “Well, Steven's a strong, physical player. I think he's really going to help us in our front line, both defensively and offensively.”
Clark will be a big addition at the forward spot to support Jayden Walsh. Jayden is a player that Neary thought had a great Region IX tournament this past season and has a chance to be one of the top players in the league this coming season.
“I think Steven's going to come in and compete for minutes, obviously, and hopefully make us better. In addition to that, I think he gives us some options...,” Neary said.
Neary pointed out that Clark comes from a great program at Alma Academy. He is one of five players from his team that will be playing college ball in the United States. One of Clark's teammates will be playing an hour and a half away for Sheridan College. Rudolphe Joly will be playing for the Generals next season.
“The big thing is, I Think [Clark] fits with what we're trying to do,” Neary added.
Steven joins a Pronghorn squad that will have two players returning that saw action last season-Walsh and Dwight Anderson- with seven other newcomers signed on to play this winter.
