The Gillette Roughriders beat the Wheatland Lobos, 8-7, yesterday, in Round One of the Class AA State Tournament. The game was tied at 5, heading into the top of the fifth inning. That's when the Riders took the lead for good after Austin Tennant registered an RBI double that scored Alex King. Gillette would score two more runs in the fifth, to take an 8-5 lead.
Wheatland scored tow more runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough, as the Roughriders will advance to face the Casper Oilers this afternoon, in Cheyenne, at 4p.m.
Gillette played the Oilers twice, last week, they fell 4-3, last Tuesday in Casper, and then were beaten 6-1, Friday, in Gillette.
Casper trounced the Cheyenne Hawks, 22-4, yesterday in Round One.
Roughriders senior Andrew Youngs will continue his baseball career at Miles Community College in Miles City, Montana.
The 6'2, 180 pound outfielder finished the regular season with a .260 batting average, 23 RBIs, and 30 stolen bases.
