MOORCROFT, Wyo.--It was a battle between two, 0-7 teams, but someone had to win. The Wright Panthers (0-7) were able to get in the win column by defeating rival Moorcroft (0-8). The final was 13-0 in a game played on a beautiful fall Friday afternoon in Moorcroft.
The game was scoreless until Daniel Magana through a 30-yard pass to Alex Ferguson at the one-yard line and took it into the end zone with 25 seconds left in the first half. The extra point was wide right.
It wasn’t a neat game. Both teams fumbled the ball and Wright picked off Moorcroft twice, once by Ferguson and once by Magana.
Unofficially, Moorcroft had more passing and rushing yard than Wright, but with the Panthers able to score two touchdowns with drives at great field position.
The Panthers scored their second touchdown after driving down the field in the fourth quarter. It was capped off by a five-yard run into the end zone by Ferguson; Magana made the extra point.
On defense, Brandon Collen for the Panthers was all over the Moorcroft receivers, breaking up numerous pass attempts.
Moorcroft tried to make a comeback. With less than five minutes in the game and the Wolves on their own seven-yard line, quarterback Colton Richter found Bailey Donaldson open on the far, right side of the field, who turned it into a 73-yard catch and run. Moorcroft would end up hurting itself with a couple penalties pushing them back and turning the ball over on downs.
