Earlier this week, representatives from the Summer of Hope adoption program stopped by News Talk 1270 KIML. Geri Gibson spoke with host Don Carpenter about the program.
“Summer of Hope is a program that brings children from different countries. This year, we did the Philippines and the Congo to the United States. They come for a month, and they have a kind of a dream American vacation. They come and spend a month with a family here. The American families get to spend time with these children, and a lot of them are adoption minded, and they want to adopt a child; so, they get to know the children through that month period. It kind of helps them decide whether or not they want to adopt and bring these children into their homes.”---Gibson

At last night’s Gillette City Council meeting the council voted to pre-qualify general contractors for formal bidding purposes for the Gillette Avenue improvements project. Before the vote was taken, comments from the public were invited, and citizen Dave Allison of Ward 1 stepped to the podium. Allison is well recognized at Council meetings and no citizen has addressed the Council more at meetings in recent years. Allison will sometimes provide sharp criticism for the council, or just ask questions about projects. Last night he decided to give them and City staff some praise for the planning on the Gillette Avenue improvement project.
