Campbell County Reaches Agreement On Back Taxes With New Mine Owners, Eagle Specialty Materials

The new owner’s of the Belle Ayr & Eagle Butte surface mines, Eagle Specialty Materials, has worked out an agreement with Campbell County to pay about half of what was owed to the county for back taxes by Blackjewel and Contura Energy. And, what about the nearly 600 employees whose withholding’s for insurance and 401k were withheld, but not deposited…?
That’s the county’s Administrative Director Carol Seeger. Commissioner Del Shelstad for his part it’s a good thing ESM is making it’s employees whole, otherwise he might not have supported the deal…
The sale of Eagle Butte & Belle Ayr mines was closed on last Friday with that 1.8 million being written into the closing documents.
