School District Employee Arrested After Alleged Incident at Sage Valley Junior High

GILLETTE, WY –A Campbell County School District employee has been arrested and charged with felony child abuse following an incident at Sage Valley Junior High.

According to Gillette Police, school staff contacted officers at around 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, after a 13-year-old student reported being physically assaulted by a 32-year-old non-teaching staff member.

Investigators say the incident began as a disagreement over a computer use policy. The employee told police the student was being disrespectful, but the situation escalated when the man allegedly grabbed the student by the back of the neck and pushed him into a locker.

Police reports indicate the employee also used profanity toward the student during the incident.

The student suffered scratches and redness to his neck, along with a bump on his head. He was evaluated by the school nurse and later released to his parents.

The employee was taken into custody and is facing one count of felony child abuse.

The investigation remains ongoing.
