Press Release – The Buffalo Fire is located southwest of Broadus, Mont. along the Montana/Wyoming state line.
The lightning-caused fire is burning in pine trees, grass, and sagebrush.
Firefighters are taking steps to protect structures which are threatened along the east and south flanks of the fire.
Extreme drought conditions and gusty winds accompanying a passing cold front are expected to prompt continued growth.
The Alaska Interagency Incident Management Team is establishing an Incident Command Post at the Moorehead Campground, and will take over management of the fire Wednesday morning.
There will be a public meeting at the Powder River Community Center at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday to provide information and answer questions from the public.
