Cheyenne, WY – On Friday night at Riske Field in Cheyenne, the Central Indians picked up their first win of the season over the Campbell County Camels 66-13.
Central is 1-3, while the Camels are now 0-4.
The game was delayed two separate times due to lightning, and each delay halted the game for approximately 45 minutes.
Central running back Adarius Gallon finished with 265 yards on 20 carries and four touchdowns.
Senior quarterback Daniel Shumway was just 1-0f-11 passing, but made that one completion count, as he found senior tight end Riley Boltz for a 44-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the game.
The Camels’ scores came on a 66-yard run by Brylie Skillings as the first quarter expired. Freshman quarterback Kaden Race then hit junior receiver Morgan Merchen on a slant route for a 7-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
After the game, head coach Micah Christensen noted that his team started slow out of the gates, which ultimately put them in a big hole.
“They stepped up. Nothing to speak on their play prior to the first delay. I wasn’t real thrilled with the way they came out, but I was thoroughly pleased with the way the kids reacted to some adjustments and a little talking to in the locker room. We as coaches have to do a better job of getting them out on the field and ready to go, and stepping up in the first place.”
Christensen also appreciated the Camel fans that traveled down to Cheyenne and stuck it out in the rainy weather.
“When we came out after that second delay, there weren’t too many people in either set of stands. I didn’t pay that close of attention, I could definitely hear them, but I would bet on our attendance after that second delay, if not equaling, then bettering their (Central’s) attendance. So that was awesome. It sure is great to have support like that.”
The Camels will host Thunder Basin in the first ever crosstown matchup this Friday at 7:00.
