Eddie Montgomery Reveals How Montgomery Gentry Will Fill Troy Gentry’s Shoes Live

Written by on January 22, 2018

Eddie Montgomery is hitting the road with Montgomery Gentry for the first time since the death of his partner, Troy Gentry, who died on Sept. 8, 2017, in a helicopter crash.  Montgomery decided to move forward with the promotional tour in support of Here’s to You, the duo’s final album, which they completed just days before Gentry was killed. After pondering how to replace Gentry’s vocal presence for the live shows, Montgomery said that everyone in the band will play a part in singing Gentry’s verses.  Montgomery said “all of us guys together have been on that bus for 20 years … the band was like, ‘man, we would really like to sing a verse here or sing a verse there.'” Montgomery says it’s the perfect solution to address Gentry’s absence. Montgomery Gentry launched the Here’s to You Tour on Friday night (Jan. 19) in Sioux Falls, S.D., the first of two nights on a double bill with Alabama. The tour is slated to run through Sept. 15.
