Eddie Vedder Performs Tom Petty’s “Room at the Top” For Oscars ‘In Memoriam’ Segment

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder was in attendance at the 90th Annual Academy Awards Sunday, March 4, but he wasn’t just attending the ceremony as a viewer; he also performed at the event. Vedder was the singer for the In Memoriam segment at the Oscars, playing “Room at the Top” from the late Tom Petty, who passed away last fall. After an introduction from Jennifer Garner, Vedder took the stage with his guitar and backing keyboardist Brendan O’Brien as he performed the fitting and moving Petty song. While Petty was acknowledged in the intro by Garner, he was not part of the actual “In Memoriam” montage amidst the actors, actresses, directors and various crew members. While Vedder has been performing solo for most of the past year, he’s set to resume touring with Pearl Jam this spring through the summer.
