Press Release – Safe Kids Campbell County hosts its Boost Til 9 child safety seat check event on Saturday, September 8, from 10 am-2 pm at the Campbell County Public Health parking lot, 2301 W. 4-J Road in Gillette.
At this event, residents can have a child passenger safety technician check their child’s booster seat or car seat to make sure it is up to date and installed properly with no recalls. Thanks to a very generous grant by Graco, Safe Kids Campbell County will have car seats and booster seats available for those in need, making sure that every child will leave safer than they arrived. Supplies are limited.
Participants are asked to bring the child, their current car seat and the vehicle that they normally travel in for the check. Inspection time is around 30 minutes.
Guidelines issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2011 recommend that kids use a booster seat until they are at least 4’9” tall (57 inches) and weigh between 80 and 100 pounds. Children seated in a booster seat in the back seat of the car are 45% less likely to be injured in a crash than children using a seat belt alone. According to Wyoming Child Restraint Laws, children must be in a child restraint (car seat or booster seat) until they are 9 years old.
Safe Kids Campbell County provides the Campbell County, Wyoming community with free car seat checks and much more to help educate our children on preventing accidental injuries. Weekly car seat inspections are held on Wednesdays by appointment at the Campbell County Health Emergency Medical Services Base, 502 Stocktrail Avenue in Gillette, Wyoming. For the month of August, Safe Kids is giving away free high back to low back booster seats to those in need, while supplies last.
