Northern Wyoming Community College District board approves revised mission and vision statements

Press Release – The Northern Wyoming Community College District Board of Trustees gave their unanimous approval on revised mission and vision statements for the District during their regular monthly meeting Thursday. NWCCD faculty and staff worked with student leaders over the last nine months to review the statements and create suggested revisions for approval by the Trustees.

The finalized statements are as follows:

Mission: NWCCD welcomes all learners, empowers student success, encourages and strengthens community development.

Vision: NWCCD will be the premier higher education institution in the region; we will provide all students with a diverse range of experiences to prepare for a dynamic future.

“A periodic review of our organizational mission and vision is an important component of the college’s governance process to ensure that these important guiding principles align with our institutional spirit and priorities,” explained Assistant Vice President of Strategic Communication Wendy Smith.

The review and revision process began in January, with the academic leadership team identifying a key theme missing from the prior statement.

“A well-defined mission statement should clearly and concisely articulate why we exist and our primary institutional purpose or focus,” said Smith. “Despite it being central to our institution, the prior mission statement did not articulate our commitment to providing all learners with access to higher education. The revised mission captures this important aspect of our work.”

While the mission statement describes the clear the purpose of the institution, the vision statement is more aspirational, describing what NWCCD would like to achieve in the future.

According to President Dr. Paul Young, the revised statements align with the District’s current identity and goals.

“As an institution, it is important that our mission and vision statements are accurate representations of who we are and what our long-term goals are for the future,” he said. “These revised statements achieve that and will serve as a guide for our institution moving forward.”
