There seems to be a designated day for everything and today is National Fig Newton Day! Growing up this was my favorite “cookie”. I am pretty sure my grandparents convinced me they were cookies for some random “health” reason. -WF, News Director/Basin Radio Did you know these fun facts? Until the late 19th century, many doctors believed that most illnesses were related to digestion problems and recommended a daily intake of biscuits and fruit. In 1891 an American baker invented and then patented a machine that inserted that odd fig paste into a thick pastry dough. Fig Newtons carry the namesake of Newton, Massachusetts; which is near the home of Kennedy Biscuit Works (forerunner to Nabisco). |
