Plan To Reopen Eagle Butte & Belle Ayr Mines Delayed Again

Written by on October 11, 2019

The reopening of the two Blackjewel Mines here has apparently been delayed again. The Casper Star-Tribune is reporting the required transfer of mining permits and associated cleanup liabilities to the new owner, Eagle Specialty Materials, could delay the official closing of the sale by at least three weeks, that’s according to court proceedings that concluded Wednesday morning.

Attorneys for FM Coal said in court the request was unexpected and “thrust upon us late.” The company hopes to operate the Eagle Butte and Belle Ayr mines and had previously planned to close the sale Wednesday.
