FATAL CRASH WEST OF WRIGHT MONDAY

Press Release – A fatal crash west of Wright, Wyoming has resulted in the death of an adult male. The crash occurred on January 16th at 5:05 a.m. near mile post 123 on Wyoming State Highway 387 approximately 28 miles west of Wright. 

The adult male was driving a 2003 Mazda Protege passenger car traveling east on WY 387  when the Mazda was struck head-on by a westbound 2000 Buick Park Avenue driven by a teenage male. The head-on crash occurred after the westbound Buick crossed the centerline of WY 387 into the eastbound lanes of traffic. The two vehicles collided on the south shoulder of eastbound WY 387. 

The Mazda, driven by the adult male, caught fire after the head-on crash. 

The adult male sustained fatal injuries on scene from injuries endured during the initial crash and not from the vehicle fire. 
 
The teenage male, who is a resident of Wyoming, driving the Buick was wearing his seat belt and was transported by ground ambulance to Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming where he was hospitalized for injuries.
 
Fatigued driving is currently being investigated as the contributing factor in this crash that marked the second highway fatality in Wyoming for 2017. There were two fatalities during this same time period in 2016.

This investigation is still ongoing with no charges currently filed at the time of this release. 

The adult male's identity is believed to be known but has not been confirmed pending a DNA analysis. As the investigation is still ongoing, the teenage male's identity is not being released per Wyoming Highway Patrol policy.
