Press Release – On Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at approximately 4:41 a.m. The Gillette Police Department received a request to check the welfare of 36 year old male who was headed to Gillette Wyoming from Casper.  The person making the request was concerned because they believed he was under the influence of something and had made suicidal statements.  At about 5:30 a.m. an officer spotted the vehicle described by the caller and followed it.  After other units joined, an attempt to stop the vehicle was initiated.  The driver, who was later determined to be the man they were looking for, refused to stop and led the officers in a pursuit approximately 14 miles west of Gillette.  At that time, the suspect turned around and headed back towards the city.  Before returning to Gillette, officers utilized road spikes which successfully disabled his vehicle.  The suspect stopped on the interstate on the west edge of town.  Officers monitored the suspect and established communication with him via cellular phone.  About 4 ½ hours later, at 10:44 a.m., the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.  During the operation, Interstate 90 was closed in both directions.

The incident is still under investigation and the suspect’s identity and formal charges may be released on Thursday, January 12, 2017.
